Relic

Instrumentation: saxophone quartet

In the composition of Relic, Iintegrated certain music of the past into my own style and voice. Not specific musical works, but rather the essence of this music filtered through time, and through my own perception, understanding, and taste. This music includes, for examples, the hauntingly-beautiful hurdy-gurdy, the horn call, and a dance-like melody that seems to belong to Europe four or five centuries ago. The music of the past, to me, still carries extraordinarily potent expressive potential.

Relic was composed for the ~Nois Quartet, and premiered by them on February 5th, 2026 at the Peabody Conservatory.
