Trial and Error, and Trial was composed in 2020, and revised in 2021, for Shane Stewart. When I was composing this piece, I found myself rewriting the opening section over and over again. Although frustrating, I was eventually glad that I approached the piece in this way, and decided that the piece should reflect of the idea of perserverance through trial and error.

Shane Stewart asked me to write the piece for him at the 2019 International Trombone Festival. He premiered the first version at Rice University, and the revised version at the 2021 International Trombone Festival in Columbus, Georgia. I’m very grateful for his work on the piece.
